The lesser-known sacred texts from the margins of the margins

Beyond the Principia Discordia and the Illuminatus! Trilogy, there exists a sprawling underground library of Discordian texts—written by popes, cabals, and lone agents of Eris. Many are freely available online, as befits a tradition that declared "Kopyleft — All Rites Reversed."

Featured Texts

The Black Iron Prison

A collaborative Discordian text exploring the "Black Iron Prison"—a concept borrowed from Philip K. Dick describing the invisible structures of control that constrain human consciousness. This book applies Discordian philosophy to break down the mental walls we build around ourselves and the ones society builds for us.

More Underground Texts

Apocrypha Discordia

Compiled in 2001 by the Reverend DrJon Swabey with illuminations by Pope Phil Wlodarczyk III, the Apocrypha Discordia is a "completely unofficial sequel to the Principia Discordia." Assembled from Kopylefted sources across early internet forums, printed zines, and the Melbourne small press scene, it gathers Discordian writings, rants, rituals, and proclamations from various cabals and popes. Its existence earned DrJon and Adam Gorightly an invitation to write the outroduction for a hardback edition of the Principia Discordia itself.

Principia Entropius

A chaotic gathering of material pulled from early Discordian message boards of the 1990s. Brenton Clutterbuck described it as "a terrible mess that makes one's head hurt" but also "a rare and valuable (historically if not creatively) snapshot of Discordianism in the 90s." Tagged with keywords like "grate_moo, mooism, froot_loops, frootloopianism," it captures the raw, unfiltered energy of online Discordianism before the forums gave way to social media.

The Book of Eris

Presented as "a Holy Discordian Bible, One of Five predicted by Malaclypse the Younger, being an Advanced Course into The Erisian Mysterees." Published under the name Eris Kallisti Discordia, it is a collection of rituals, invocations, philosophy, and sacred nonsense dedicated to the Goddess of Chaos and Mother of Us All. Various editions have been compiled by different cabals over the years, each adding their own layers of illumination and confusion.

The Honest Book of Truth

Written by Kerry Wendell Thornley (Lord Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst), co-founder of Discordianism, The Honest Book of Truth is structured as a parody of the Bible—divided into The Book of Uterus, The Book of Explanations, The Book of Predictions, The Book of Advice, The Book of Gooks, and The Gospel According to Fred. According to Discordian legend, Eris' true final testament to mankind existed in only one copy, which was mistaken for refuse and carried off by a garbageman who refused to give it back. Robert Anton Wilson called it "the best thing Kerry had written." Long thought lost, the complete text was finally published in Adam Gorightly's Historia Discordia (2014). Excerpts also appear throughout the Illuminatus! Trilogy.

Holy Nonsense (2012)

A modern Discordian classic compiled by Episkopos Cain. A chaotic anthology of Discordian writings, memes, rituals, and sacred absurdity gathered from the internet age of Eris worship. Frequently cited as one of the best post-Principia texts.

Oven-Ready Chaos (1992)

Phil Hine's accessible introduction to chaos magic, heavily influenced by Discordian philosophy. A practical guide to belief as a tool, paradigm shifting, and the application of creative chaos in magical practice.

Chao Te Ching

A Discordian reinterpretation of the Tao Te Ching, replacing Taoist wisdom with Erisian insight. Where Lao Tzu spoke of the Tao, the Chao Te Ching speaks of Chaos— finding sacred disorder in the ancient Chinese classic.

Summa Discordia

A comprehensive compilation of Discordian thought, ritual, and philosophy. Attempts to systematize the unsystematizable—gathering the scattered teachings of Eris into something resembling a complete theological framework.

The Zenarchist's Cookbook

A companion piece to Kerry Thornley's Zenarchy, expanding on the fusion of Zen Buddhism and anarchist philosophy. Practical applications of non-action, spontaneous order, and enlightened chaos.

Et Cetera Discordia

Another anthology of Discordian writings from various popes and cabals. The title suggests its nature: more Discordia, and more after that, an endless proliferation of sacred nonsense.

The Dao Deh Discordia

Another Taoist-Discordian fusion text, exploring the parallels between Eastern philosophy and Erisian chaos. The Tao that can be spoken is not the true Tao—the Chaos that can be ordered is not the true Chaos.

A Note on Discordian Publishing

Discordian texts are traditionally distributed freely and without copyright restriction. As the Principia Discordia states: "Kopyleft — All Rites Reversed." This means you are free to copy, distribute, and remix these works. In fact, you're encouraged to.

If you've written a Discordian text, congratulations—you're a published Discordian pope. Every pope has the right to author sacred scripture. It's in the job description.
